Extra-research Activities

Apart from the main objective of the association, there are other activities that have been annexed to its main body that are not directly involved with research activities. We hope that students find them useful additions to their educational experience. Our additional activities include*;

Alexandria Medical Journal Club

The club regularly holds monthly meetings for its members to revise the latest updates in medical fields. Access to publications such as The Lancet, British Medical Journal, New England Journal of Medicine and nature Medicine were made applicable through the faculty library and Bibliotheca Alexandria.

Apart from the regular updates on literature, the club also cites the articles of higher impact and comment on them in its monthly brochure, to increase the circulation and awareness of such updates.

Finally, the club regularly encourages Interns and residents to continually update their medical practice, and enhance appreciation of Continuing Medical Education (CME) through the use of educational materials, whether Presentations, Audio or Video lectures, that serve this purpose.

Project Philosophia

Name derived from the Greek words Philia (means Love) and Sophia (means Knowledge), this project presents talks that encompass wide ranges of Non-Medicine disciples.
These 'multidisciplinary' talks are aimed at widening the traditionally-narrow scope of lectures given in Medicine schools through exposing students to presentations involving seemingly-distant disciplines (for example: Engineering, Philosophy, or even Music) and how they can actually relate to biomedical knowledge and practice.

Net-on-Medicine Initiative

With an eye for the ever rapidly-developing nature of the Internet and its impact on disseminating medical knowledge, this initiative produces series of talks and tutorials that introduce websites with useful resources related to medicine to medical students.The talks also aim at teaching students what they can gain from these sites and how to make the most out of them.
